About
Hirataya is a 120-year-old traditional Japanese guesthouse located in the old town of Nio-cho, Mitoyo City, in the western part of Kagawa Prefecture.
As a rice shop that has been in business for 11 generations, we have witnessed the transition of five eras: Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa.
The Hirataya was renovated from a vacant house and opened in the spring of 2021 as "Hirataya - Setouchi Old Town Lifestyle Guesthouse".
You can enjoy your stay as if you were living there, surrounded by nostalgic townscapes and abundant nature.
Hirataya is surrounded by spectacular scenery, including the very popular "Chichibugahama Beach", the famous "Takaya Shrine" with its celestial torii gate, and Mt. Shiude, which was ranked the 7th best travel destination in the world by the New York Times.
Shonai Peninsula and Awashima and Shishijima are also just a short distance away.
In addition, a detached building built during the Showa era has been renovated and will open as Hirataya - Showa Room in the spring of 2024. Why not try living a nostalgic yet new normal lifestyle in Nio Town, Mitoyo City, an ancient town in the Setouchi region?

Hirataya's 2-guesthouses rental plan
This is a plan for renting two buildings, the Meiji Room and the Showa Room.
The two wings are connected by a corridor, there are 2 rooms of 8 tatami mats + 1 room of 9 tatami mats. With two full kitchens, a bath, shower room, and two washer/dryers, you can stay as if you were living in the house.

I am a mother of two college age children.
When I was looking for something I could do to help, I came across Hirataya, the home of my husband's grandmother, after the hard work of raising a child had come to an end.
I wanted to do something here!
Maybe I can do something here!
It was a sudden and rash start with no evidence whatsoever, but in March 2021, the year of the COVID-19 pandemic, we opened the guesthouse "Hirataya - Setouchi Old Town Life Inn".
With the support of many people, we opened Hirataya, and we look forward to welcoming people from all over the world every day.

Since I have done what I wanted to do so far and have put in a lot of hard work, I wanted to let her do what she wanted to do. My special skill as a husband supporting my wife who is starting to run headlong into this is DIY.
There is still no end to the things we need to do, such as building the kitchen and wooden deck, plastering, and so on, since we live in an old house.
I speak a little English, so I enjoy interacting with guests from overseas!
